Exposition
Snow condition
Good snow conditions with sufficient coverage of all vegetation in the forest. You can ski almost anything here, but you should be careful with fallen trees covered in snow. It is possible to ski down to the bottom of the valley (1,500 m) without any problems, both in the sparse and denser forest. Further up, you can see blown-off ridges in places exposed to the wind (from a distance).
Snow quality
Really still usable snow conditions before the warming in the Brenner region. There is almost 15 cm of pleasant powder on the soft old snow. You can make really nice turns on the slopes in places where nobody has skied before. The low wind influence during the last snowfall was also advantageous, so that the powder is very unbound. Good snow quality further down in the forest too.
Risks
Wind intensity: No Wind (0 km/h)
Few wind signs and few danger spots in the forest. On open, steeper slopes, you can see some wind signs and recognize old loose snow slides and snow slab cracks on the south-facing opposite slope. Otherwise, no avalanche activity could be observed visually today, but explosions could be heard - however, these could not be localized. No fracture could be produced on the ECT, how meaningful the whole thing is for higher up remains questionable (approx. 1,800 m, 27° and certainly often tracked this winter). Nevertheless, a clear crust sandwich is recognizable with well-defined cup crystals. Avalanche warning level indicated as low, as we were only below the tree line.
Overall impression
Finally back home at Brenner with really good conditions. There was still enough untracked terrain for 2 runs in the forest. With the coming warming, the snow quality will probably suffer noticeably. Let's hope that there'll be some more soon and that the avalanche situation will finally improve in the long term...
