Variations of snow cover

The snow conditions are still below average. On the south side, areas are completely bare, as are most of the ridges. On the north side, many stones are still sticking out in places.

Snow quality

3 von 5 Sterne
Hard, pressed snow
Firn
Powder snow

The snow quality on the south side is very appealing with good timing. From an altitude of approx. 2,100 m, moist, easy to ski powder slowly turns into firn, which is really fun if you ski down early (approx. 10.45 a.m. from the summit, but 30 minutes later would also be fine). Good snow on the north side if you don't find any old tracks (which is impossible on the Nockspitze).

Risks

Old snow problem
Fresh avalanches
Diurnal warming
Much water in the snow cover
North-West

Wind intensity: Low (< 20 km/h)

Fresh gliding snow avalanche with further mouth riders right on the slope (slightly covered in snow). The avalanche was about 200 meters long and almost 80 meters wide and went all the way to the bottom. This (and the uncontrollable triggering of sliding snow avalanches) should definitely be considered in the near future.

Better

Finally skied the sheet of the Nockspitze. The ascent via the Mairrinne is very hard and crampons are actually obligatory. For the way back to the Lizum, the ascent via the Leintuch itself and then the descent via one of the gullies is a good option. If you want to take it easy, take the ski bus to Mutters and ascend via the east and south and return the same way. The firn gets better, the wet powder gets worse on the south side.

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
