Snow condition
Today another tour with a starting altitude at valley level. An ascent from 800 m is still halfway possible with a few meters of carrying on north-facing forest paths. The descent hardly makes sense below approx. 930 m and it makes more sense to carry from here. This will certainly get worse every day in the coming days with higher temperatures. The snow cover is already quite thin in the sunny terrain, especially in places exposed to the wind, or is beginning to snow out. A free choice of line is still possible at the moment.
Snow quality
Due to the warm temperatures today, the melted resin cover softened quickly. First descent Expo SO around 10:15 am. There was already firn. On the 2nd run (Expo O) it was already much deeper. Just three stars.
Risks
Wind intensity: No Wind (0 km/h)
Spring conditions are slowly but surely setting in: start early and finish early, especially if you are looking for firn.
Overall impression
First snow day of the season. If the temperatures remain high and there is no major snowfall in the near future, meaningful tours in the Mangfallgebirge will soon become manageable.
