Variations of snow cover

As in the previous CR, below 2,500 below average, ok at altitude. From the Langtalereckhütte you can easily reach the Gurgler Ferner through the Gurgler gorge with short carrying passages. From Kleinleitenjoch down towards the south-west, the gully is not rideable but good for descending. You can also get up to the Martin-Busch-Hütte with skins without any problems.

Snow quality

Breakable crust
Wet snow
Firn
Powder snow
Summer snow
Jelly snow

Good snow quality with powder in northeast-facing terrain (Kleinleitenjoch ascent). On the south-west side a mixture of powder, firn, broken snow and stones. The ridge to the Schalfkogel is good for stomping.

Risks

Crevasse or fall danger
Diurnal warming

Wind intensity: No Wind (0 km/h)

The danger mostly comes from the warming during the day and the risk of falling on the hard snow surface. Drifting snow was rather rare and small-scale.

Overall impression

Equal

Beautiful 2nd day and a passable descent (despite changeable snow conditions). Only the ascent back to the hut is annoying. Nevertheless, very good weather, good views and a beautiful day.
