Snow condition
Top! A lot of the southern weather conditions have stuck and you can really ride everything!
Snow quality
Actually good! 20-30 cm of fresh snow, little to moderate wind, dusty and fluffy everywhere in the morning, quite wet in the afternoon on the south side and especially below the middle station.
Risks
Well! The fresh snow didn't really bond with the snowpack underneath. In the morning I found a small, approx. 20 meter wide board with a 30-40 cm crack that someone had triggered just before me. The crack was behind a small knoll, south-facing slope, slightly blown in. In the afternoon it got a bit trickier. A small board, 15m wide, 15m long, crack 25 cm; triggered by a freerider; south-facing, not blown in!!! (photo) A medium-sized board, approx. 40-50m wide, approx. 100m long, crack approx. 50cm. Triggered by a freerider who escaped. It could have ended badly, especially because the avalanche went through a slope full of rocks. (photo)
Overall impression
Well, Sportgastein used to be an insider tip... unfortunately it's not like that anymore (thanks to the Atomic Xperience Day) The parking lot was pretty full at 13:00 and people with thin skis were looked at as if they came from Mars... Most of the slopes were in potato field-like conditions from midday. But if you know where you can always find something ;-)
