Conditions-Report aus Bellwald, Aletschregion
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
On the predominantly south-west-facing slopes where we were staying, it was possible to ski down even in the forest up to the valley station at 1600 meters. Further down, however, it quickly becomes very snow-poor. In wind-affected places, however, it also turns brown in places further up or rocks appear.
Snow quality
In gullies, hollows and in the forest (lightly) settled powder snow, in the remaining areas strongly wind-affected snow, often crusty and rock-hard in places.
Risks
In the relatively flat forest it made a favorable impression, but in the alpine areas there is a lot of drift snow, which can easily be disturbed. In view of the bad weather (and visibility!) forecast for the next few days, I would rather refrain from alpine activities.
Overall impression
Despite moderate weather and less fresh snow than we had hoped for, we spent a nice day in the Bellwald ski area. Most of the forest runs near the ski area were still untracked, the visibility was fine and we were also happy about the 20 to 30 cm of fresh snow.
