Skitour aufs Rauhorn vom Visalpsee: Mix aus Firn, Pulver und gerinfügig Eis

Snow condition
It's easy to get to the Visalpe via the frozen Visalpsee. After that, at around 1200 m, there is just enough snow to climb up without having to unbuckle. On the descent, the creative skiing style makes it possible to ski continuously, but from 1400 m and below it becomes stony or meadow-like again and again. From around 1400 the fresh snow increases. However, less snow seems to have fallen here than yesterday on the Geierköpfle. Large cornices on the ridge bear witness to the strong winds of recent weeks. Good snow conditions on the north-east slopes below the Rauhorn. No stones touched as far as the lake. A lot of snow on the south side. Ridges on the windward side also
Snow quality
Changeable. As soon as the sun came out, cool firn on the ascent. Unfortunately too late for the descent. Fortunately, powdery turns are still waiting in the wide north-eastern slopes. A little less snow than yesterday, in some places you can see old tracks through. However, the first 200 m under the Rauhhorn are very good to ski with about 10 cm of surfy pow
Risks
Watch out for sliding snow. On this tour you can avoid the problem a little, just cross quickly and stay in the north-east sector. A few small wet snow boulders came down and loose snow avalanches from the north face of the Rauhorn, otherwise steep stuff is also possible. Due to some wind on the ridge above, I have the feeling that there may be small-scale new loads in the north sector, steep and close to the ridge or below terrain edges
Overall impression
Recipe for powder in the next few days: Over 1500 m in the north, north-east and north-west sectors, or firn snow on a hard crust in the south sector. Surprisingly little going on for Sunday and good weather. We were alone with a few snowshoers on their way to the Gaishorn.
