Snow condition
Given the poor snow conditions, ski tours in the Kalkkögeln away from the piste make no sense at all. To avoid the crowds at Hoadl, at least in the upper part, we turned off into the cirque between Hochtenn- and Malgrubenspitze. It didn't look too bad, at least from a distance. However, you have to watch out for stone contact throughout, some stones are only very slightly hidden under the snow surface. Oncoming Italians have probably completely demolished their new skis. My stone board made it to the bottom without any stone contact, but this certainly requires a bit of luck and a very soft skiing style, in other words: stay light on your feet. In the ski area itself, nothing is possible off-piste. At least the piste is open all the way down.
Snow quality
In north-facing exposures, the snow is still powdery, but in some places there is a wind cover. This is not stable and disturbs the enjoyment of the descent. However, these spots are limited and were only noticeable on a few terrain crests. Otherwise, the snow was nice to ski on, if you didn't always have to worry about contact with stones (see snow conditions).
Risks
Wind intensity: Medium (20 – 40 km/h)
Snow-covered stones are certainly the main danger in the terrain at the moment. However, the risk of avalanches should also be taken into account. The snow surface is very loose, partly a mixture of powder snow and gritty drift snow. Probably not the best basis for further snowfall. This is also not a good basis for small-scale, bound drift snow packs, which are already forming.
Overall impression
At least we took advantage of the reasonably good weather and made a few turns in nice powder snow, albeit with the handbrake on. Unfortunately, we still need a lot of snow in the terrain...
