Snow report Tannheimer Valley, 04/02/2018
"non-mainstream" Skitour im Tannheimer Tal, considering 5-star conditions
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Approx. 10-15cm fresh Pow, finest quality, on bearing rootstock. What more could you want at the beginning of April? Free choice of line almost unrestricted. From the PP, neither on the ascent nor on the descent, did I hit a stone!!! There is still an above-average amount of snow in the area.
Snow quality
Until noon, in the north and west expos, great, light fresh pow. A bit heavy on the south side. Towards midday, also at lower altitudes (from approx. 1600m) and also on the north side, relatively heavy powder. Still good to ski though.
Risks
We were below 2300m and finished the tour at around 13:30. Very relaxed throughout. Even in steeper passages, >40°, no chute triggered. Neither on the ascent nor on the descent. Towards the afternoon, however, there were some spontaneous loose snow slides in all slope positions.
Overall impression
Sensational weather and an epic powder dream. The conditions today were fantastic and even steeper descents were doable. Simply a great day ... hopefully not the last of these days this season.
