Snow condition
Ski tours possible from the Walchen camp and down to the valley. Snow depth increases with altitude: starting point about 10 cm of fresh snow above 2000 m, a good 30-40 cm. up to approx. 1800 m but without any significant base. Cautious descent possible below the tree line due to fresh snow. Above the tree line there is a reasonable base and amount of snow, but there is still a lack of snow. Stone contact hardly avoidable on ridges and terrain transitions.
Snow quality
Finest cold powder, apart from areas close to the ridge wind chimes fell
Risks
Wind intensity: No Wind (0 km/h)
Above approx. 2,200 m, a lot of blowing noises, settling of the snowpack and cracks in the snowpack; weak layer and old snow problem as indicated in the LLB; drifting snow in areas close to the crest
Overall impression
Contrary to expectations, a dream day with sunshine and fine powder, most of it completely windblown. Sufficient snow above the tree line, thin below. But it still needs a few more loads.
