Exposition
Snow condition
Snow conditions are still below average, but have improved considerably with the fresh snow. From Sunday to today it was probably around 90cm. The amount of fresh snow increases significantly with altitude. However, rock contact is still to be expected in some places.
Snow quality
It was already very fine. The upper 30cm fell without/with little wind and also quite cold and was quite dusty, underneath it was still soft but getting denser and denser.
Risks
Wind intensity: No Wind (0 km/h)
Sector north, over approx. 2300m, steep and convex terrain was very tricky today. There were a few releases, two of which were quite large (see photo). Less steep or different altitude/expo, however, quite stable for the amount of fresh snow.
Overall impression
Sometimes you have to listen to the oracle, let work be work and stand at the gondola when the time comes and you will be rewarded with a very fine day. You can give 5 stars for the first Steinberg run, even Tof let us go first as he still had to set up his camera. However, even on a Tuesday outside of the vacations, Engelberg is frighteningly fast. But that may also be because days like this were in short supply during the season and nobody wanted to miss out.
