Snow report Upper Black Forest, 01/03/2021
Heute auch mal am Belchen :)

Overall impression
Snow condition
The side valleys on the Belchen show impressively that the closed snow cover is partly up to 500m and partly only up to 700m. Sensible descents, however, are only possible up to approx. 800m. An estimated 60cm of snow at the top, with a few centimetres added today too.
Snow quality
The snow quality varies, rather heavy at the top due to the influence of the wind, fluffy light powder in between, getting heavier again towards the bottom. Today we noticed extreme differences in the snow quality due to the exposure, but these were rather worse in the north/northwest sector, we suspect the southwest wind of the past few days.
Risks
The Belchen also has slopes filled with drift snow, which should be taken into account.
Overall impression
Significantly less hustle and bustle than in other parts of the Black Forest where we were out and about today, and correspondingly fewer tracks in the terrain. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't on our side today, so we had to tackle the descent over the Hohe Kelch again.
It's really exciting how many reporters are out and about in the Black Forest :D
