Exposition
Snow condition
The snow conditions are now very good again for the time of year at altitudes between 1200 and 1800m. It will probably be even better higher, but I haven't been there. Below 1200 the base is rather poor. The rainy December has unfortunately completely destroyed a solid base of almost 1m of settled snow. There is little difference between the exposures. On the north side, the base is not much better than on the south side. There is still a lack of snow almost everywhere in the denser forest.
Snow quality
Beautiful powder snow. Strongly influenced by wind on the ridge and terrain edges. Mostly fluffy powder in the forest
Risks
Wind intensity: High (40 – 60 km/h)
Strong wind from the northwest. Increasing towards the afternoon. Some drifts on the south-eastern slopes. Crack formation observed over large areas in 30 degree steep terrain with bound snow. Drift snow in large forest clearings. I wouldn't have been surprised by a 3 today.
Overall impression
Good touring day with unfortunately a bit too much wind for really light powder. Low visibility unfortunately only allowed descents in the forest. Here you can get through less and less ice and it gets really nice and wintry. It can go on like this
