Snow condition

Above-average snowfall in the Saas Fee area and around the Britannia Hut. Heavy snowfall in places today, dry above 2500m, then becoming wet and increasingly turning to sleet from 2200m (values from this morning/morning)

Snow quality

Dry snowfall at the top, wet snow below 2500, rain at the bottom. Descent to the Saas Fee sports ground possible without any problems on the pistes. Partly white-out conditions around the Britannia hut and at the top of the Egginerjoch.

Heavy snowfall and stormy conditions created a lot of drifting snow overnight.

Overall impression

Aufgrund der Wetterprognose für die nächsten Tage sowie des während der Nacht von 30. April auf den 1. Mai beginnenden Schneesturms haben wir uns für den Abbruch unserer Skihochtourenwoche im Wallis entschieden und sind heute morgen von der Britannia Hütte via Egginer Joch nach Saas Fee abgefahren. Trotz der widrigen Bedingungen (teilweise White Out und Sturm oberhalb von ca. 2800m) war die Abfahrt überwiegend genussvoll: Oberhalb von 2500 trockener Neuschnee auf den Pisten des bereits geschlossenen Skigebiets, weiter unten zunehmend "schmieriger" und schön zu fahrender Nasschnee bis hinunter zum Ortsrand von Saas Fee.
