Snow condition

24.12. and for the first time this season you have touring opportunities. The snow conditions are still not plentiful, terrain traps are still very present and yet you can still do a lot with foresight. The wind seems to have changed direction several times in the last few days, judging by the terrain. In general, the snow conditions are quite inhomogeneous.

Snow quality

Protected from the wind in the lee, it was a very good fit. As there was a lot of sleet in the last precipitation phase, you quickly pick up speed. The sinking depths were not extreme today. There was no chance of hitting a hard surface, as the first precipitation fell in warmer temperatures.

Some of the cornices are already quite huge. We were out in the meadows a lot today and the connection between the drift snow and the old snow cover was ok there. We didn't ski any steeper terrain as visibility was very poor and therefore it was difficult to recognize dangerous spots. The sleet in the last layer will fall victim to the rise in temperature over the next few days.

Overall impression

A few months ago, I said that either there would be powder on December 24th or I would ride the passes on my doorstep on my road bike. Fortunately, the first option came true. The 4th star today is for powder on 24.12. and we were the first to ride 4 different descents today. It could hardly be better. Conditions remain good until the temperature rises.
