Snow condition
The Jungfrau region got some really nice snow. Around 40-50cm of fresh snow on a solid base. There's still around 30cm of snow in the valley too. And this is already at the beginning of December. Has the snow from last winter finally fallen?
Snow quality
It could hardly be better... Very airy and light snow at low temperatures. Not windswept! From the top to the valley. On First as well as on Kleine Scheidegg-Männlichen.
Risks
Considerably. However, I could not detect any spontaneous or remote releases. The layers are well connected. However, a brisk wind was blowing at higher elevations. The ridges have blown off. However, the snow in the hollows has not been pressed by the wind. Caution is advised on steep slopes.
Overall impression
A fantastic day in the Jungfrau Region. In the morning on First, in the afternoon on the Lauberhorn and on the Eiger Glacier. There were few people and few freeriders. There was still plenty of space... The visibility wasn't perfect all day, but it was consistently acceptable and tended to get better and better.
A great start to the winter again. Today was probably the best day of the last 2 years.
