Laax Trees and Snow
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
The strong winds last night and this morning led to massive snow drifts above the tree line. Slopes that were still waist-deep in snow yesterday were almost completely blown away today. Furthermore, a load-bearing layer of wind-pressed snow has formed in some areas, although this was barely visible. Below the tree line, the snow that fell yesterday was safe from the capricious weather and you could ski down in beautiful powder.
Snow quality
Very varied, from hardly any base, wind-pressed areas, powder and snow holes, everything was there.
Risks
Due to the strong wind, we had to be defensive, so if we were off the beaten track, then at lower altitudes. In high alpine terrain, I think it's pretty tricky at the moment. Especially as it is very difficult to recognize the different pockets early on.
Overall impression
Strong wind, low visibility - great in the trees. Moderate at the top.
