Snow report Andermatt / Gotthard, 04/21/2017
Andermatt 80s Powder, Powderfahren wie in den 80ern: am 2ten schönen Tag nach den Schneefällen.

Snow condition
Yes, you can still get down via the closed valley descent without stone damage. However, the terrain is very thin at the bottom. In the rocky valley there is hardly any free ride without a machete. At the bottom, moss slides are the order of the day, and from 2200 a massive blanket of snow makes all activities above the middle station worthwhile.
Snow quality
In the ridge areas, it is either wind-pressed and concrete-hard or on the lee side it is slushy to powdery. The snow quality changes very quickly. However, a soft and powdery surface layer can still be found from west to east.
Risks
Yes, this very inhomogeneous snow cover does raise questions. Sluff slides become medium sized on steep slopes. Blown-in snow packs can still be easily recognized. After the predicted fresh snowfall this week, I see this as the most critical aspect alongside the sugar crystal-like surface on the sweet side.
Overall impression
Yes, it was great, even if we weren't sure at the start of the day whether to go with or without skins. You always find something nice to do. Even if it's just the sun, which was obviously enjoyed differently in the 80s
