Snow report Oberstdorf, 11/26/2017
Skitour auf das Walmendinger Horn, von Mittelberg entlang der Piste.

Overall impression
Snow condition
Rather poor in the valley. About 10cm of powder, on nothing. But there is plenty of snow (picture 1). Along the valley descent, towards the summit. From approx. 1500m, the fresh snow lies on a layer of old snow that is soaked to the ground. From approx. 1700m there is plenty of fresh powder, at the summit (approx. 1900m) up to the knee. From approx. 1700m this soaked old snow is then capped. 2 stars for the valley and 3 stars for higher up.
Snow quality
It was cold all day. In the valley about -2°C, at the summit -10°C. Quite an unpleasant westerly wind there too, but below freight strength. Sun only for a few moments at a time. Otherwise overcast, but quite good contour visibility. Powder was good and will probably stay that way, you could choose your line freely, mostly without risk of ground contact. I also give it 3 stars.
Risks
The wind-blown fresh snow can slide down on the aforementioned snow cover, but no snow slabs were triggered or observed, although there was quite a lot of activity, even in the terrain, so caution is advised, but the overall situation, at least on the Walmendinger Horn, still seems to be rather relaxed.
Overall impression
I'll stick with my 3 stars. Free line choice possible, good powder, pretty good visibility and also quite a lot going on in the area.
