Snow condition
Almost no fresh snow has fallen (two centimetres is probably not worth mentioning). Due to the previous, heavy northern thaw in this region, an excellent base has formed for future tours. There was no stone contact.
Snow quality
The snow was moderately wet at about 700 meters above sea level. As the altitude increased, we noticed a thicker cover on the snow, but it was not frozen through. With good technique and a sufficient weight/ski area ratio, it was reasonably skiable.
Risks
The avalanche danger was limited as there were no ridges and gullies in which drift snow could have collected. Due to the small amount of fresh snow and little wind this morning, there was generally little to no drifting snow. However, this situation will soon change with new snowfalls with heavy precipitation and wind. The risk of sliding snow avalanches was also almost non-existent due to the less steep terrain. However, on steeper slopes and with exposure to the sun, this could definitely be a risk!
Overall impression
On reaching the top, the cloud cover opened up and the sun peeked through. The clouds and mountain panorama excused the later descent, which was only manageable with a lot of strength and technique. We are expecting lots of fresh snow for Monday and hope for the best! A nice base is now available in any case.
