Overall impression
Snow condition
Snow conditions are very good, enough snow from the valley. Glaciers are (as far as we have seen) well snowed in. 2x overnight about 15 cm of fresh snow.
Snow quality
Nice powder over about 2000m. You could still feel the base up to about 2500m.
Risks
The amount of fresh snow was not very large, but the wind loads (especially near the crests and gullies and hollows at high altitudes) did not allow the big tours (Grande Casse) and many other descents. Wait for safer conditions for extensive alpine touring.
Overall impression
The ascent of Grande Casse was ruled out from the outset due to the avalanche situation. We also canceled the planned traverse due to the weather and avalanche situation. Instead, we skied two days of powder on moderate descents and then moved to the ski resort. It wasn't what we came for, but we made the best of it. We had to wait for better weather and safe conditions for the big peaks and glaciers, then we should be able to do a lot more here. The subsequent freeriding in Les Ars, which was born out of necessity, was actually worth 4 stars in itself.
