The recent snowfall has changed the terrain quite a bit since my last visit two weeks ago. Suddenly the forest in the valley becomes an endless playground and can serve as a base for the next few dumps.
Snow quality
We were hoping for powder and we got concrete powder, hard snow and a bit of powder on the north side. The sun had probably been out for a few hours the day before and had turned the meadow into concrete or rather a snow cover.
Risks
The massive snowfall of over 60 cm settled well and made a stable impression. Only a little came down from the steep gullies in the basin. No major cracks or danger signs identified.
Overall impression
So just under 2.5 stars is rounded up to 3 by the super crew. After the first descent, we had long faces, as we had been looking forward to 60 cm of powder and got concrete powder that almost took our shoes off several times. After a hop-like drink of frustration, however, things went better and better and we skied until there was nothing left to get. On the north side, this would have been a 5-star day... Base is available in the Lower Valais.
