Snow condition
Basically good enough from 1200m. Nevertheless, the many avalanche cones and sliding snow chutes limit the choice of route somewhat and make the ascent not exactly fun. It is better to ascend to Karlstor on the right of the trench, unfortunately I went left. The snow conditions are poor in places, as entire slopes have gone down and taken a lot with them
Snow quality
Not easy to ski, as it was different at almost every turn. Above 1500 you could take a few slab powder areas with you, otherwise avalanche bumps, harsch, ice. At the bottom there was only harsch with a very high potential for jamming. Rather bad in the narrow forest. I think I just chose the wrong tour today...
Risks
Karlstor, virtually the entire slope has disappeared in both valleys. On the south side, the snow is melting due to sliding snow and (below 1500m) heat. Large cornices on the Grünhorn right above the ascent route. That was too tricky for me today. Nevertheless, there were still some on the ascent shortly before 1am. Loose snow and slab avalanches on the Höferspitze. Almost a spring situation, only drifting snow above 2000m.
Overall impression
Maybe an earlier start and something on the south/east side would have been better. At least this way we were outside and trained our legs with hairpin bends on hard snow. The second star goes to the sunshine after a week of rain.
