The amount of snow in the Ammergau mountains is very good for this time of year. Except for the south-facing slopes, there is still a really thick blanket of snow over a large area. In addition, another 10 cm of fresh snow fell on Wednesday and Thursday (10 cm today, already settled). Today it was possible to ski down to the valley without any problems and this also applies to some of the non-south-facing ski tours.

On Wednesday and Thursday it was warm up to 2000m and on Wednesday it rained up to these altitudes. The snow cover was very wet overall. Nevertheless, 10cm of fresh snow fell yesterday (at about 1800m above sea level). As it was still cloudy in the Ammergau mountains this morning, it only got really warm from midday onwards. On the descent in the morning we still found some nice, settled powder, which was still very easy to ski.

Risks

Due to the very high temperatures of the last week and the rain in the middle of the week, there is wet snow and sliding snow to watch out for. Added to this is the fresh snow that has fallen under the influence of strong winds, which increases with altitude. I would be quite careful on the road at the moment. As our tour didn't go that high up, the main problem was the soaking of the snow cover.

The downhill conditions were very good despite the damp snow. I was surprised how well it went today.
