Steep days im Westallgäu
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
In mid-March, it's still relatively good everywhere except for southern locations. However, there is no new snow and so things are likely to go quickly again. Fortunately, it's still relatively cold.
Snow quality
In pure north-facing slopes even today, set powder down to the valley! at 850m. Everything else is more bad than good. Every day the snow settles more and more and so the fairly safe avalanche situation on the steep north-facing slopes is slowly but surely becoming too compact for me to continue here. It's too steep and rocky for that. The time window is closing again.
Risks
Quite safe so far. Over the last few days, we've ridden pretty much every possible line on the steep northern sides of the Nagelfluhkette. Here you can also find the 45 up to 50 degrees +. What was very noticeable today, however, were the rising snow slopes on the east side and even partly on the north side. Nothing was visible here yesterday. On the south side, some have already gone down to the meadow.
Overall impression
These were great days, but it's almost over again. Maybe tomorrow again, then the steep stuff will be too tricky for me. Overall for the last 3 days there are 4 stars, today alone it would only have been 3.
