Skitour Kühgundkopf und Pontenkar
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Very thin up to about 1400m. Some of the trails and off-piste terrain next to the piste were completely bare, with a few small patches of grass on the eastern slope of the Kühgundkopf. The north-facing Pontenkar has enough snow. The west-facing slope towards the summit has very little snow (see picture).
Snow quality
Not really good, but better than expected. The upper layer on the Kühgundkopf was already soft at half past 9 in the morning. On the descent, the first 200m or so the layer underneath held and it was easy to ski. Below that it became too soft. Pontenkar was really icy at the top (a little tip on the side: crampons are currently better in your touring rucksack than in the cupboard at home...). After the steep section, super grippy snow for carving. Too soft in the pines here too.
Risks
It was very wet on the sunny side. There were smaller, older slides from the previous days in several shooting gullies. There was also a small slide on the NW slope of the Iseler. Pontenkar made a safe impression as the snow was so hard.
Overall impression
The tour was intended purely as exercise therapy, but we had a lot of fun. If supplies don't arrive soon, it will be difficult in the Allgäu, even on the slopes below.
