Snow condition

Decent for the time of year. The southern slopes have snow up to around 2000m. There is still snow in Macugnaga itself.

Snow quality

Sunday still strongly influenced by wind. Different variations of hard snow, some firn on the sunny side. This morning on departure, about 15cm of fresh snow had already fallen at 2000m. At this altitude, however, the snow was still very wet as the snow line was at around 1700m. The wind is likely to be strong again at this altitude

Risks

Judging by the rumbling from the clouds, critical. After a lot of wind in the previous days, the fresh snow is now falling again in abundance and is likely to create dangerous conditions for the time being.

Overall impression

Very beautiful area with rather challenging tour options. The conditions were a little complicated due to the strong wind. We had hoped to get an early start today before the fresh snow became too much. However, we then had to realize that it had already snowed too much and the avalanche risk had already increased too much.
