Deep Powder im tiefen Osten (Niederalpl)
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
I haven't seen the forest around the Styrian Niederalpl (1220m) so deeply snowed in for a long time. If it really continues to snow as heavily as it is at the moment until the weekend, there will be a fifth star: the whole forest (as long as the trees aren't completely dense, of course) is now a fun playground full of pillows, drivable ditches, etc.
Snow quality
Drop in temperature. Today in the valley (approx. 700m) only -6 degrees. Up on the mountain (1400m) up to -12 degrees. This means fluffy powder wherever the wind/storm can't take hold.
Risks
4s. Outside the forest, storm and hardly any to zero visibility (heavy snowfall in places, storm with heavy snowfall). Drifts right into the forest. Surprisingly little sluff in the deep forest (downwind and far away from the open areas), even on the steeps.
Overall impression
Impressive day. Snow up to the waist and above is not uncommon.
The slopes that are skiable and not affected by the wind might even have earned 5 stars. But overall, the location is too affected by the storm and poor visibility for the highest rating.
