Snow condition
Tour to Pflaumhütte (N, 1000 - 1800 m):The Griesenau snow station has been reporting snow-free at the starting point for almost two weeks and indicated 4 cm of snow cover this morning. I was then surprised that it went quickly from 0 to 20, right at the bottom, so that no significant carrying was necessary. At midday it was still snowing below 1300 m, but then probably at plus temperatures. In the forest from 1200 m upwards there were still decent, but already interrupted packs of old snow, which was surprising. From the crossing into the cirque, there was thick, continuous old snow with 20-30 cm of fresh snow. At the top, everything is deep winter with around 40 cm of new snow.
Snow quality
Great for May! Almost four stars, because you can get through a bit on the old snow and bolls, which are always well plowed in the Kaiser. So it was a bit worse than I had imagined on the way up. Nevertheless, here and there you've got it in your face.
Risks
Because one of my 3(!) fellow climbers almost fainted at the tempting and initially still veiled sight of the Schönwetterfensterl-Rinne today, the various summit destinations in the Griesner Kar remain untracked for today. Just as well, given the loose snow slides that could be observed everywhere after just 3 minutes of sunshine, which were (still) small. Let it set, then dream descents beckon here, but I don't think people will hold back until the weekend. Toitoitoi. Nothing else observed. I think the tension in the snow will ease quite quickly, given the time of year. But today was still nothing for experiments alone.
Overall impression
Nix with carrying on the wüdnkoasa. The fresh snow on the ground will melt quickly, but those who are not too bad to carry up to the wood depot can speculate on a June tour in the Griesner, the cirque is well filled. Never harvested face shots so far down so late, nice!
