Snow report Montafon, 04/27/2016

Overall impression
Snow condition
Up to around 2,000 m, it is very poor in all exposures. On the south side, the fresh snow was certainly deceptive today. It is certainly worse further up here. From about 2,200 m, the amount of fresh snow increases rapidly. In total, there is about 30-40 cm. The heaviest track work was the order of the day today. At this altitude and above, it looks pretty good again.
Snow quality
From the start up to around 2,000 m, the fresh snow was already slightly wet. Here it alternated between soft and light wind slush. Then it changed to the finest dry fresh snow. On the descent at around 12:00 noon, the snow was noticeable from the top and from around 2,500 m it was significantly heavier but perfect for skiing and very heavy on the last 300 meters of altitude.
Risks
Below 2,200 m, the amount of fresh snow is low and lies on a compact layer of old snow. Above that, there are several new snowfalls that have come together but are also lying on a compact layer of old snow. The last fresh snow has fallen with little and has thus covered the danger spots from the snowfalls with wind well. From around 2,600 m, spontaneous self-triggering in terrain around 40° could be seen. Skier avalanches were triggered on the north side at approx. 2,800 m and 2,600 m in terrain around 40°. The avalanches were approx. 30-40 cm high and approx. 10-20 meters wide.
Overall impression
Simply overwhelming for the end of April. Unfortunately, too few days like this this winter. The competitors were also limited. After today, I'm not in the mood for summer.
