Test and expand your mountain knowledge, discuss with the safety experts and win
At the Mammut and Gore-Tex® Mountain Mastery 2012, teams (maximum 3 people per team) will go through three competition phases. A safety expert from the Mammut Alpine School and PowderGuide will evaluate and comment on the teams' competition entries and submissions and optimize them together in a subsequent interactive forum discussion. The decisive factor for the evaluation of the entries and winning the Mountain Mastery is not the absolute alpine knowledge of the teams, but how intensively the participants have dealt with the respective alpine topics and the current snow and weather conditions in their entries. Asking (comprehension) questions is therefore expressly encouraged and will not be judged negatively!
Together, the two winning teams will embark on the ultimate freeride trip to one of the best areas in the Alps in March 2012 in the best conditions in the Alps.
Three competition phases to the ultimate powder trip
The two teams that score the most points in the three competition phases will be invited to the grand powder finale of the Mountain Mastery by Mammut, Gore-Tex and PowderGuide: Three days of pure freeriding and adventure, just the way the winning teams like it, in a top spot in the Alps chosen by the teams themselves.

The competition phases of the Mammut Gore-Tex Mountain Mastery 2012
1) "Find the best snow" is the motto of the first competition. Your task is to find the best freeride spot in a given large region at that time. How do you do that? With the help of a provided manual "How to find the best powder area", even less experienced freeriders can successfully complete this competition level and at the same time gain valuable knowledge for planning future freeride and touring days.
2) "Check your line" is the motto of the second competition phase, in which the aim is to learn how to "read" the terrain and thus make the best possible use of it. The aim is to recognize the most favorable but also the risky slopes and slope sections in the terrain. You can already plan your descent lines and ascent routes optimally when preparing your freeride or tour at home: reading topographical maps and recognizing the best spots in the terrain are part of the fine art of freeriding. Anyone can learn this art with the help of the editorial special "Terrain reading and route selection".
3) "Go out and walk" is the motto of the third competition phase. In other words: thinking is silver, touring in powder is gold! In this competition phase, theoretical knowledge is to be put into practice. The last competition of the Mountain Mastery is not about undertaking the "wildest" tours possible or taking alpine risks, but rather the participants should undertake one to a maximum of three tours that suit the current snow and weather conditions as well as their abilities and tastes.
Freeride beginners can and should also take part
The Mammut Gore-Tex® Mountain Mastery by PowderGuide is aimed equally at experienced freeriders as well as freeride and tour beginners. While experienced freeriders can learn from the professional tips of the Mammut Alpine School mountain guides, freeride beginners can use the tips and feedback to expand their knowledge of how best to plan tours and freeride days. No master has yet fallen from the sky - the Mammut Gore-Tex Mountain Mastery can be the first step in this direction.
