The Pinzgau Glemmtal valley is mainly known among skiers and party-goers, but is somewhat hidden away and offers a variety of tours that are mainly popular with locals. Due to the Talhatscher, the tour to the Schusterkogel is somewhat less popular than the one to the Staffkogel in the neighborhood.
Ascent
From the parking lot in Lengau, cross the bridge. Take a shortcut across the open field on the left to the higher road. Follow this flat uphill into the valley heading south. After a few meters downhill at the feeding station for wild animals, cross the bridge to the east side of the stream (Vogelalmgraben) and continue along the valley. Approximately at the height of the alpine pasture along the summer path through the forest and over the south-eastern slopes towards the basin below the Schusterkogel, which will soon be visible. In the basin, initially more in the middle, further up to the left towards the ridge and on this to the summit.
Descent
First along the ascent track through the basin, at its foot heading south (skier's right) to the extensive slopes. Across hilly meadow terrain to the valley floor and back to the alpine pasture where the ascent track branches off. Now follow the ascent trail back to the parking lot.
Tip
From the Alm you have a wonderful view of the western slopes of the Hohe Penhab. You can ski from the Saalbach-Hinterglemm ski area (either ascent in the area of the 6-seater chair "Zehner" to the Hohe Penhab or with the Seekar T-bar lift directly to the ridge) towards Vogelalmgraben, whereby you should take a closer look at the choice of line in the lower area beforehand (dense forest or afforested areas). Take the forest trail back to the parking lot in Lengau, from there take the ski bus back to the Hochalmbahn or the Zwölferkogel Nordbahn.
At the parking lot in Lengau, you can also opt for the tour to the Staffkogel, depending on the conditions.
