Via Jaspers to Mount Robson | North America Trip Part III
Christian Skala • 10/17/2011We continued on to Jasper. On the way we took several short tours, which always offered beautiful scenery. If you want to photograph animals in southern Canada, you don't have to search for long – you simply join the regular queue of car parks at the side of the road, get out, briefly assess whether you have already photographed the animal in question (whether bear, wapiti, caribou or other) and drive on after a successful photo hunt. -

Rocky Mountains - "Canadian Alps" | North America Trip Part II
Christian Skala • 10/17/2011After two weeks in northern Canada and Alaska (see Part I of our report), we traveled south to the Canadian Rocky Mountains. If it weren't for the endless solitude and the huge glaciers, you'd think you were somewhere in the Karwendel or Brenta mountains. The scenery is often reminiscent of the local Alps, but without the typical forest aisles, lifts, settlements and tourists, so that you can still experience the mountains here in their natural pristine state. -

Yukon - Don't have a plan! | North America Trip Part I
Christian Skala • 09/30/2011The most north-western territory in Canada – subarctic climate, arctic tundra, boreal coniferous forests, huge glacier areas with the highest mountain in Canada. Hardly populated and also bears, wapitis, moose and caribou. These factors convinced us to take a two-week trip to the far north. In the following report, we try to describe how we fared in the wilderness and solitude. -

In the footsteps of Heini Holzer – Steep face skiing in the Dolomites
Christian Skala • 04/28/2011Winter in our beloved north-eastern Alps is rapidly coming to an end, the meadows are already green in many places and the summer temperatures are causing the below-average snow cover to melt even faster. Many of the usual steep face projects for this time of year are highly unlikely to be realized this winter. -

On the trail of the Incas | Part I
Christian Skala • 10/27/2010Does Peru offer more than Machu Picchu? What do the high Andean peaks look like in reality? What are the people of Peru like? Condor or puma, what do we see of the diverse wildlife? We wanted to explore all this and much more in four weeks of trekking. In the following report, we try to describe what we found out on our trip -

Of high pressure areas and umbrella bars: The Eastern Alps between Christmas and New Year
Christian Skala • 01/21/2010Christmas falls on December 24th every year. An area of high pressure seems to be spreading over the Alps with a similarly somnambulistic certainty. The difference to previous years: the white base is extremely clear. This makes snow sports activities on the mountain even more exciting. Despite poor snow conditions and adverse umbrella bar conditions, with a little motivation and creativity, even this adverse period can be overcome. -

Chamonix, meeting point for freeriders and extreme skiers
Christian Skala • 02/18/2009After a good early winter and lots of treeskiing, it's time to tackle the big lines. Where better to do this than in Chamonix? After a long wait, we have finally arrived in Chamonix and will be reporting on our experiences over the next three weeks.
