SnowChase 03 2024/25 | Adventures in the Kashmir Valley
03/27/2025 • Michael StegerAfter its visit in the Caucasus last week, we are now accompanying the same low pressure area on its journey eastwards. It is now affecting parts of the mighty Hindu Kush and Karakoram mountain ranges. It is now reaching the Kashmir region, which is covered by PG weather since the last update. Just like the Caucasus, Kashmir is geopolitically extremely sensitive: Pakistan and India have been fighting over the political region of Kashmir for a long time. The mountains around Kashmir are extremely interesting terrain for both trekking in summer and freeriding in winter. -

SnowChase 02 2024/25 | It's snowing in the Caucasus
03/20/2025 • Michael StegerBetween the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea stretches the 1,100 km long Caucasus - a mountain range up to 5,000 m high that acts as a natural border between Russia and the Middle East. At the heart of this mountain range lies Georgia - a geopolitically fractured country with a fascinating culture and breathtaking mountain landscapes. The Caucasus has long been a legendary freeride and ski touring area, hosts the FWT and is once more receiving a good amount of fresh snowfall. -

WeatherBlog #17 2024/25 | Hoping for the Atlantic Bridge
03/04/2025 • Sebastian Müller & Michael StegerWe're not complaining any more, because the recent snowfalls have provided surprisingly good conditions, especially on the southern slopes of the Alps. The Alps are currently enjoying perfect weather thanks to blocking high pressure over Central Europe. The conditions for ski tours are quite good where there is snow and especially where it has recently snowed and should be taken advantage of. The outlook is not clearly promising, but a comeback of winter is quite possible in connection with a sudden stratospheric warming. So there is hope, and as long as there is hope, let's hold on to it.
