Exposition

East South-East South South-West

Snow condition

4 von 5 Sterne
50 cm fresh snow
Descent to valley (to 1300 m)
Descent through forest
Blown backs
Variations of snow cover

Fresh snow from 50cm and 1m in forest aisles. Descent to the car in the village possible. There certainly wasn't much in the area itself before the fresh snow, and it was often blown off at the top due to the constant wind. However, all the blown-off snow then mostly ended up in the forest, which led to dream conditions, at least below the tree line.

Snow quality

4 von 5 Sterne
Hard, pressed snow
Powder snow
Wind drifted snow

Stayed cold, above the tree line it was blown over or a bit pressed. Top powder snow in all other places!

Wind drifted snow

East South-East South

Intensity: medium

Altitude: 1600 m – 1800 m

Risks

Much fresh snow
Much water in the snow cover
South-West West

Wind intensity: High (40 – 60 km/h)

As we only used one lift (Gampen) and visibility wasn't so good at times, we didn't observe anything current. Snow still extremely loose, only a bit of sluff even on steeper runs. Hard to judge above though

Overall impression

4 von 5 Sterne

Insanity! We started late in the day and then skied until the lift closed. You could already see the first avalanche barriers... By midday there was hardly anyone left in the area and it continued to snow heavily. Most of the tracks will be snowed in again tomorrow if it continues like this! We can only hope that other lifts will open at the weekend :)
