Stone Contact avoidable

Very good snow conditions relative to the season so far. But you need forest paths, tracks or alpine meadows up to an estimated 1000m to get up and down properly. nothing works in the forest. Above 1200m, virtually anything is possible, the snow surface compensates for larger terrain unevenness for the first time this season, just like yesterday. A dream for the eye, the ascent and, of course, the descent. Contact with rocks is not completely impossible, but if you're like me, you might catch one. Since Wednesday afternoon in the Geigelstein area, another effective 10 cm of fresh snow (with settling)

Powder snow

above 1300 m certainly worth four stars. still fluffy, incredibly deep and easy to ride. In the afternoon it started to get a bit sticky at the bottom and it became a bit heavier. Which doesn't mean that you don't get the odd shred in your face when you hop around on the finishing slope at 800m.

Risks

Diurnal warming

Wind intensity: No Wind (0 km/h)

Despite the quite favorable LLBs (Bavaria 2, Tyrol 1 below 2000m, 3 above) and the already well-tracked variants, we still had concerns about tricky layers of sleet. We made an ECT at 30° NE. The connection between old snow and new snow (120 cm below the surface) was unproblematic. You actually come across some embedded layers of sleet (20 cm, approx. 35, 37, 50 and a few deeper ones, all around 1 cm thick). These broke from top to bottom (ECTP11@20cm, ECTP15@35cm), but the fracture propagation is extremely poor; the blocks did not or hardly went beyond the blade. the rest of the column remained standing. Same result with a second block in the same place. From my point of view, this confirms the relatively relaxed situation from the LLB. You can't completely rule out the odd hotspot, but it's more likely to be significantly higher. In addition, the sliding snow problem is slowly becoming more pronounced again, and many people don't seem to have this on their radar. We only saw small loose snow slides. In the morning there were still wind vanes around the summits, later there was no wind at all.

Worse

Holla, what a day. Bouncing through the north gully like there's no tomorrow. Incredibly good conditions today in the Geiglstein area. I've never had such good runs here as today. Nevertheless, there are still a few things missing for 5th place. It was very busy and below 1200 the fluffiness decreases. The forest track below is already partly rutted like a slope. Hopefully it will cool down again overnight and maybe it will snow a bit more, then it will be mega again tomorrow. For first tracks, you'll slowly have to get more and more creative. If you go home after the first run, it's your own fault
