25 cm fresh snow
Descent to valley (to 1800 m)
Descent through forest

Variations of snow cover

Descent possible almost down to the valley. Overnight there was 5cm of fresh snow in the valley and 30cm on the mountain. It still snowed a lot at the top in the morning, but the snow settled as it warmed up.

Snow quality

3 von 5 Sterne
Breakable crust
Wet snow
Slush
Powder snow
Wind drifted snow

In the morning, there was fluffy powder like in the depths of winter. But as soon as the sun came through the clouds, it got harder.

Risks

Cracking (When entering the snow cover)
Fresh avalanches
Diurnal warming
Much fresh snow
Much water in the snow cover
East South-East

Wind intensity: Medium (20 – 40 km/h)

There is no longer an LLB. It felt like a tricky 3. When the visibility improved, you could see that several larger snow slabs had come off. The fresh snow was lying on a crust and was easily disturbed.

Avalanche activity

Dry slab avalanche (small)

Altitude: 3000 m

Worse

And yet another powder day on the lift. Actually, there is often good fresh snow at this time of year, but the lifts are usually already closed. Thanks to corona, some resorts have extended the season. So something positive for once. I wouldn't have expected powder up to my waist again, but of course I'm happy to take it. The visibility was still poor in the morning, but the snow was all the better. Towards midday it became sunny and at some point the last patch on the Pitztal Glacier was gone. All in all, another great day.
