Variations of snow cover

Surprisingly little snow for the altitude in Baad. There's no less in the foothills. It's also noticeable that the snow cover has not grown to a minimum up to around 1500m. Above that it's fine. Except in the forest. Alder trees and the like were asking for a slalom and on the Höferspitze drop skills were required over various, slightly snow-covered sliding snow mouths. And finally, some old avalanche boulders demanded attention. But it still went well down to 1500m. A maximum of two stars for Baad

Hard, pressed snow
Powder snow

As usual, look for hollows, gullies etc. Elsewhere wind-pressed in places, but mostly good there too.

Risks

South-East South

Wind intensity: Low (< 20 km/h)

On the Höferspitze there were several patches of sliding snow, but these were probably caused by the thaw over Christmas. Behind edges in the > 40 degree range, interspersed with rock, NE, there were also some thin cracked edges to be seen. Everything felt great up to just over 40 degrees. And that was also skied yesterday. I think the Tyrolean/Vorarlberg LWD were closer to reality than the Allgäu LWD, even in the last few days.

Overall impression

Worse

Very good, pleasant conditions for steep tours above 1500m, even on the ascent. If we don't get a second helping at the beginning of next week, it will be very lean again at the bottom
