Variations of snow cover

The snow conditions in the Kitzbühel Alps have improved significantly. There is now good snow on the shady side and protected from the wind. You can do very well there. In places exposed to the wind (ridges, ridges) the snow cover is quite thin and on the south side the alpine meadows are already starting to appear again in these places (below approx. 1450m). All in all, it's only enough for 2 stars if you take all exposures into account.

Snow quality

Hard, pressed snow
Powder snow

On the south-west side, we found a stable cover with a few centimetres of fresh snow. As the surface had no old tracks, it was quite nice to ski. On the north side in the protective forest, there was nicely settled powder snow.

Risks

Diurnal warming
Much fresh snow

Wind intensity: No Wind (0 km/h)

The drift snow accumulations could still be recognized and avoided quite well. Steeper entrances close to the ridge and transitions from a little to a lot should be judged very critically and avoided. Due to the almost spring-like temperatures from midday onwards, steeper sunny slopes should also be viewed critically. Today we were able to see two old leeward descents close to the ridge that were already of considerable size.

Overall impression

3 von 5 Sterne
Worse

A beautiful day with snow that was much better than expected. Tomorrow, the sunny sides will deliver broken snow, while the north side will still have good snow.

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
If you need help with the operation or have suggestions for improvement, please write to us at app@powderguide.com!
