Snow condition
Lots of snow, but nothing out of the ordinary for the Tauplitz. Very impressive cornices hang over the rock faces along the ascent.
Snow quality
Still dry snow in the shade (from the snowfall events on Tuesday and in the night to Wednesday). Melt crust on the sunny side that turned firny in the course of the morning. Partly also something like "April powder" (moistened but still loose snow) due to the sun and strong daytime warming. Above the tree line in exposed places, of course, wind influence everywhere. Near the summit (Großes Tragl) also "glassy" ice slabs. Overall, however, good to ski.
Wind drifted snow
Intensity: medium
Risks
Wind intensity: No Wind (0 km/h)
Wet, self-triggered slab avalanches (also fresh) from steep, sunny slopes. Possible cornice fractures on the rock faces of the Tragls could well endanger the ascent route along the marker poles. Three fresh slab avalanches on the eastern slope of the Schneiderkogel, one of which went as far as the Großsee. The sinkholes and gorges are well snow-covered and overgrown, but can be easily recognized and avoided if necessary with good visibility.
Avalanche activity
Wet slab avalanche (small)
Altitude: 1900 m
Overall impression
