Snow condition

Still more than enough snow down to the valley (even in the forest).

Snow quality

Dust on crust" at the bottom. From about 1300m upwards, significantly more fresh snow (from yesterday or tonight), which was quite fluffy. Some blowing above the tree line, but only to a small extent for this winter.

The situation here (Schneealm) is much more relaxed than in the west (Veitsch, Hochschwab), where it has probably snowed and stormed more. The LWD issued level 2 above the tree line for here, and level 3 for today from Veitsch/Hochschwab westwards (this was a short-term update). Potential dangers here are mainly huge cornices (hanging threateningly over the Lohmgraben and over the Heualm). Today's drift snow was only minor and small-scale.

Overall impression

Ziemlich sonniger Tag und für die Gegend ziemlich wenig Wind, sogar direkt am Gipfel. Schöne Abfahrt runter zu den Almhütten (weicher Neuschnee auf harter Grundlage). Im Wald noch bis ca. 1300m weicher Schnee, unten dann wie erwähnt "dust on crust".
