Snow condition
Around 30 cm of fresh snow fell last night. Since the start of the precipitation on Thursday, so much has accumulated that you can ski solidly in the open forest. The eye can now determine the line and not just the snow conditions. However, the terrain is still quite undulating, some of the pines are not well covered and there could be a bit more in the denser forest. Above the tree line, stormy winds are transporting the snow and the snow distribution is certainly very uneven (we were only in the forest area).
Snow quality
Due to the rising temperatures (by midday it was just above 0°C at the valley station), the snow was not ultra fluffy and the sinking depths were not enormous, but still fine to ski and quite fast. Only at the tree line did you notice the influence of the wind.
Wind drifted snow
Intensity: medium
Risks
Wind intensity: High (40 – 60 km/h)
Lots of fresh snow and stormy winds make the avalanche situation quite difficult. In the moderate forest terrain (ski area with lots of people), the danger spots were limited. Nevertheless, there was an occasional settlement impulse. Above the tree line and in less frequented terrain, the terrain options are very limited. There were numerous blasts in the area in the morning. LWS considerable up to the tree line, LWS large above!
Overall impression
Nice morning in the area with, of course, quite a large crowd. But it was certainly one of the better options for the current conditions. Let's see what the temperatures and precipitation will do tonight.
