Snow condition
At the weekend, we had a lot of fresh snow, about 30cm on Saturday and another 10cm today. Unfortunately, there was no base at all below 1500m.
Snow quality
The overall snow quality today left a lot to be desired. It rained below 1500m, so it was super wet and heavy. It was blowing really hard at the top, so the snow was pretty wind-pressed. Only in the middle was it possible to make a few decent turns.
Risks
Wind intensity: High (40 – 60 km/h)
We were on the flat today, so we didn't recognize any immediate danger. There were quite a few drifts and drift snow accumulations at the top. Further down (1500m) we saw a small wet snow avalanche on a very steep slope.
Overall impression
Tour aborted at the top today due to poor visibility and strong winds. With the warm spell tomorrow, the snow quality is likely to drop even further. Hopefully there will be some more snow in the middle of the week, then we'll have a basis again at lower altitudes.
