Variations of snow cover

New start in the Mangfall Mountains below approx. 1400 m. Up to this altitude, the fresh snow lies on a loose surface. All terrain traps must be observed. The ascent was ok, the descent unpleasant and even the stone skis had to be carried the last few meters to the car. Above 1400 m, where there was still a layer of old snow, you could let it go with the fresh snow. Towards the summit there was about 25 cm of fresh snow, on average about 20 cm.

Powder snow

Good conditions from 1400 m to 1700 m. Knowing where there was still a base, it was really fun. The snow was fluffy for the first 150 m and then became slightly wetter (whining at a high level). No contact with the old snow. Three stars for the altitude range where serious skiing was possible.

Risks

Wind intensity: No Wind (0 km/h)

The main danger at this altitude comes from terrain traps. Shortly before the summit in a short, steeper traverse, the fresh snow was not well connected to the old snow.

Worse

Shortly after midday, we made the decision that looking is better than guessing ;). The upper area was well worth it and the last few meters to the car were already forgotten after the first beer.
