Snow quality

At the top of the western slope (leeward side) 20cm with untouched powder. Further down firn and then actually from 2pm slightly capped after the sun disappears behind the clouds. Blown off at the top of the summit from the southeast, so we use crampons for the last few meters.

Danger level 2 after fresh snow overnight, with wind from the southeast. Previously very very very stable (atypical for northern Norway) conditions with avalanche level 1, mainly due to little fresh snow. Previously, the old snow surface was strongly influenced by wind and solar radiation in southern slopes. But northern slopes were also hard before snowfall due to high temperatures. Zero isobars last week at 600moh. No signs of increased avalanche activity now. On steep south-facing slopes it starts to slide superficially from 11.30. Air temperature cold, intense sunshine. Good combination of warm old snow surface and new snow (initially warm snow, then getting colder). ECTX.

Overall impression

Ein kleiner Schneefall in der Nacht macht in der Stadt nicht viel aus, veraendert die Situation in den Bergen aber deutlich. Da wo der Wind nicht war liegt feinster Pulver, und da wo die Sonne nicht direkt draufknallt bleibt der auch noch schøn kalt und gut gebunden. Keine nenneswerte Lawinenaktivitaet ausser dass wir nun auch mit tageszeitlicher Erwaermung zu tun haben und die Sonne (ENDLICH) wieder Kraft hat. Nord Norwegen zeigt sich zu Ostern von seiner wettermildsten und schønsten Seite, niedrige Lawinengefahr. Wird so wohl bleiben bis zum Wochenende. Auch heute wieder ein strahlender Tag und sicher viel Puder auf Nordseiten und in Lyngen (hoch!) zu finden. Passt auf - wo man vom Wasser aus hinkann und was in Tourenfuehrern steht, wird voll sein denn alle Norweger haben Ferien diese Woche und sind suuuper dankbar mit Sonne rauszustuermen pluss die Ski&Sail 60 pluss Mannschaften tummeln sich auch rund Lyngen.
