Firn
Powder snow

At the top of the western slope (leeward side) 20cm with untouched powder. Further down firn and then actually from 2pm slightly capped after the sun disappears behind the clouds. Blown off at the top of the summit from the southeast, so we use crampons for the last few meters.

Risks

Diurnal warming

Wind intensity: No Wind (0 km/h)

Danger level 2 after fresh snow overnight, with wind from the southeast. Previously very very very stable (atypical for northern Norway) conditions with avalanche level 1, mainly due to little fresh snow. Previously, the old snow surface was strongly influenced by wind and solar radiation in southern slopes. But northern slopes were also hard before snowfall due to high temperatures. Zero isobars last week at 600moh. No signs of increased avalanche activity now. On steep south-facing slopes it starts to slide superficially from 11.30. Air temperature cold, intense sunshine. Good combination of warm old snow surface and new snow (initially warm snow, then getting colder). ECTX.

Equal

A little snowfall during the night doesn't make much difference in the city, but it changes the situation in the mountains considerably. Where there was no wind, there is the finest powder, and where the sun doesn't hit it directly, it remains nice and cold and well bonded. No avalanche activity worth mentioning, except that we are now also dealing with diurnal warming and the sun (FINALLY) has power again. Northern Norway is showing its mildest and nicest side at Easter, low avalanche danger. It will probably stay that way until the weekend. Today is another bright day and there's sure to be lots of powder on the north faces and in Lyngen (high!). Watch out - wherever you can get to from the water and what is written in touring guides will be full because all Norwegians are on vacation this week and are super grateful to be out in the sun pluss the Ski&Sail 60 pluss teams are also cavorting around Lyngen. HAPPY EASTER

Note on Conditions Reports
