Variations of snow cover

The snow conditions on the Arlberg are significantly better than in other areas. The forests are well covered and everything can be skied without stone contact. In the dense forest it is still a little difficult to get down in places, but overall a usable base. Above 2,000 m there is a significant wind influence and therefore strong fluctuations in snow conditions.

Powder snow

On the north side, there is 20 cm of fresh snow on soft layers that are very good for skiing. Almost everything that is possible on the Arlberg was skied today, so we decided to go on tours due to a lack of tickets and money. For the quality of the snow, however, you are happy to go up the same route 3 times. There is also 20 cm of fresh snow on the south side, but this lies on a partially existing cover, which is hard to feel when skiing.

Wind intensity: Medium (20 – 40 km/h)

Above the tree line today a 3 and lots of wind, which is definitely something to watch out for in combination over the next few days. Little wind influence in the forest and a pretty good combination of new and old snow.

Overall impression

3 von 5 Sterne

Good touring day with unexpectedly good weather on the Arlberg. Skied up 3 times for the same run and was rewarded with beautiful terrain in the forest. Today definitely cheaper and more rewarding than freeriding with a lift, but of course that's always a matter of opinion!
