Snow condition
We chose a high starting point today to get away from the poor snow conditions. We were aware that the situation wasn't ideal, even at a starting altitude of 1600 m, but we didn't expect the snow conditions to be so bad. The 25 cm of fresh snow covered the stones nicely. Regardless of the fresh snow, the whole area is quite badly snowed in and you have to look for usable lines to have some fun. I have never seen this area with so little snow. From about 2100 m upwards, the snow conditions were ok in a corner sheltered from the wind.
Snow quality
Top fresh snow! There was a good dusting. Unfortunately, the base is too thin to make the most of the snow at today's altitude. However, the fresh snow is not responsible for the poor snow conditions, hence four stars.
Wind drifted snow
Intensity: medium
Above: 2500 m
Risks
Wind intensity: Low (< 20 km/h)
There were some accumulations of drift snow near the ridge. These were easy to recognize. Some loose snow avalanches came down from steep, sunny terrain around midday.
Overall impression
Top fresh snow and a beautiful atmosphere as the clouds cleared on the ascent (third star for that). However, the snow conditions are pretty subterranean, which doesn't speak for a long season at this altitude...
