Großvenediger vom Obersulzbachtal Top Verhältnisse!!!

Snow condition
Down at 900m there's not much left, of course, but from 1200m it's deep winter! All in all, top snow conditions for this time of year, only at the bottom you have to carry your skis a bit.
Snow quality
Extremely warm on the first day on the ascent to the Kürsingerhütte, so everything was soaked up to 2600m. The next morning it was hard snow. Descent from the Großvenediger at 11 a.m., snow up to the saddle, then slightly wind-worked but fine powder up to about 2600m. From then on, changing conditions: From firn to hard snow to slush. From the glacier lake downwards, only slush.
Risks
Note the course of the day. On the first 2 km of the ascent from Hopfelboden, you already cross two serious avalanche cones. From the first steep step to the material cable car, however, there is no danger as long as you don't leave the track. The slopes before the steep step to the glacier lake should be critically assessed again, especially in the afternoon. Miscellaneous: falling rocks and ice! On the approach, you are constantly pursued by loud cracking noises, sometimes huge slabs of ice come loose from the rock faces and crash to the ground. Especially at the glacier lake, you should choose the trail in the middle of the lake. Looking up to the left, head-sized boulders come down every minute and there is still quite a cornice hanging on the right. Crevasses: Actually everything closes up nicely! Only on the last 80 meters you should be careful and not leave the track. Here are 2 collapsed crevasses.
Overall impression
Despite the miserably long ascent through Obersulzbachtal (approx. 1800 m over 18 km), this is a very nice tour. If you want, you can take the skidoo to the Postalm for 18€ or conquer the mountain from the other side!
