Snow condition
On the wild pit, there is still enough snow with a short carry down to the valley station. In the lowest section, however, there is only fresh snow, so in a few days you will at least have to ski the last hairpin bends, but further up the snow conditions look good. All variants are skiable up to the middle station. Even the steeper slopes and gullies have an acceptable snow cover for the most part. Be careful of stone contact on blown-off ridges.
Snow quality
About 30 cm of fresh snow at the top, which fell in relatively cold temperatures. However, there was more wind than expected, so the fresh snow was not champagne powder. Nevertheless, it was mostly good to ski. With sunshine, the snow quickly became sticky on the sunny side in the variants down to the middle station. Further up it was still relatively good until late morning. Some of the ridges had been blown away and there was an icy layer of harsh snow.
Risks
The LWD issued a 3 above 2600m. Due to the fresh snow (approx. 30cm, in snow-covered areas also significantly more!) in combination with the wind, it was definitely not uncritical. We therefore stayed on the flatter variants. The influence of the wind was clearly visible and it was better to avoid the drift snow on steep (north-facing) slopes and we saw a few people on the ascent to the Schaufelspitze. From the valley at midday, we could see a decent avalanche cone at the end of the northern flank.
Overall impression
The weather was much better than expected. It cleared up in the morning and most of the sun came through until midday. As a result, we were able to ski a few comfortable lines with good visibility in the off-piste terrain.
In typical Stubai style, everything was tracked very quickly, as people were chasing like crazy as soon as a line was found in any slope. It's wild what you see in the open terrain on the Stubai Glacier on a Saturday.
